About Me
Aloha my name is Uluwehi Ray. I was born and raised on the beautiful Island of Maui with roots traceable back to the days before Kamehameha the Great. I am very proud of my Hawaiian heritage and perpetuate that through passing on the information that was passed down to me.
I have been happily married to my high school sweetheart and my biggest supporter Kalauokalani Sonny Makekau-Ray for 14 wonderful years. Together we have 4 beautiful children, 3 dogs, 2 bunny rabbits, and rooster who sits in the papaya tree.......
I have had many Kumu's that I have gained vast amounts of knowledge from with my most recent being Kumu Keli'i Tau'a. I have recieved traditional Kumu training from him and I respectfully carry forth his teachings in all that I put forth. My father is a craftsman, my mother a seamstress, and my aunts' are leimakers. As a child I would sit around them and watch and mimick as they completed their projects, listening to the mana'o they would give me. Today I am very fortunate to have had that exposure in my life and mahalo all those who have taken the time to pour their 'ike into me and finding me worthy of being the keeper of that knowledge.
I do teach various workshops and classes including hula, leimaking, and ipu heke. Please contact me for availability on joining any of these classes.
